Chandigarh, October 20, 2026: Mohanjit Singh Sheron met Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to raise concerns over drug trafficking, sacrilege cases and the death of Parvinder Singh Jhota, urging action on issues affecting Punjab.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sheron said he had apprised Shah of the drug problem and the need to protect the state’s youth. He also raised concerns over the safety of ordinary people and sought justice in sacrilege cases and Jhota’s death.

‘The need of the hour is to save Punjab’s youth’
Highlighting the impact of drugs on young people and their families, Sheron called for concrete steps to curb the illegal drug trade, including the sale of chitta, a term commonly used for heroin in Punjab.
He questioned the state government’s response to the crisis, saying the loss of young lives had devastating consequences for families. He called for greater accountability from political leaders over the issue.
“If the youth cannot survive, how will the crops survive?” Sheron said, using the analogy to underline the importance of protecting Punjab’s younger generation.
Sheron also said Shah had assured him that the issues raised would be taken seriously. The details of any proposed action or assurances could not be independently confirmed.

Seeks justice in sacrilege cases
Sheron also raised cases involving the alleged desecration of religious scriptures, calling for impartial investigations and justice for those affected.
He said he had taken up the matters with the Minority Commission and a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and stressed that the cases should be handled without political considerations.
He also questioned the state of law and order in Punjab and said people needed to feel safe.
Calls for justice in Parvinder Singh Jhota’s death
Referring to the death of Parvinder Singh Jhota, Sheron expressed condolences to his family and said he would support their demand for justice.
He appealed to people to unite in seeking justice in the case and backed the demand for the Punjab Chief Minister’s resignation, calling for accountability from the state government.
Earlier drew attention for protesting against drug sales
Sheron had earlier come into the limelight after showing a black flag to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann while protesting against the sale of drugs in his village. He had also alleged that he faced police action and arrest following the protest.
His meeting with Shah has brought renewed attention to the drug crisis in Punjab, along with demands for action in sacrilege cases and justice in Jhota’s death.
The Punjab government’s response to the allegations and the specific assurances reportedly given during the meeting was not immediately available.
