Chandigarh, October 21, 2026: Former Punjab BJP president Avinash Rai Khanna on Wednesday urged the Bhagwant Mann government to resolve the demands of contractual employees of Punjab Roadways and the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC), accusing it of failing to honour its commitments to the workers.
Khanna said the employees had been raising their demands with the government and departmental officials for a long time, but no concrete solution had been reached. He said the Punjab BJP supported the employees’ agitation.
He added that the ongoing impasse was causing inconvenience to the public, including students, working professionals and other commuters who depend on state-run buses.
Khanna said the government should consider the employees’ key demands, including regularisation of long-serving contractual workers, abolition of the outsourcing system and bringing outsourced employees under a contractual employment framework.
He urged the government to review the existing employment arrangements and ensure job security and appropriate benefits for the workers.
Khanna appealed to the government to hold meaningful talks with the employees and resolve their demands at the earliest, saying an early settlement could end the impasse and reduce inconvenience to commuters.
