Mansa (Punjab), October 25, 2026: Broom-burning protests are being held across Punjab on Sunday following a call by the action committee seeking justice in the murder case of Parvinder Singh Jhota and concrete action against drugs.
Through the protests, the action committee has questioned the Punjab government’s performance in tackling the drug menace and called for the removal of a government it accused of failing to curb the problem.
The committee urged people to burn brooms as a mark of protest, pass resolutions against drugs and unite to secure justice for Jhota’s family. It also called for expanding the struggle to villages and towns across the state to hold the government accountable.
Meanwhile, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), appealed to the union’s village units to burn effigies of the Chief Minister and those representing what he alleged was a nexus among drug traffickers, politicians and police.
Ugrahan accused the government of failing badly to curb the drug trade. He urged people to ensure the success of every protest action until justice is delivered to Jhota’s family.
