Chandigarh, October 27, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has imposed a cost of ₹1 lakh on Punjab’s Chief Secretary in a case concerning the payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to state government employees and pensioners.
During the hearing on Monday, the court expressed displeasure over the Punjab government’s failure to file its reply in the matter. It imposed the cost over the delay and directed the state government to submit its response before the next hearing.
Government employees and pensioners in Punjab have been seeking the release of their pending DA dues, with the matter reaching the High Court over the issue of payment.
The court has adjourned the case to November 3, directing the state government to file its reply before the next hearing.
The next hearing is expected to bring further clarity on the government’s stand regarding the pending DA-related demands.
