Education and awareness key to making Punjab Drug-Free: Dr Satinder Singh, Dy.DEO
Ferozepur, October 27, 2026: Dr Satinder Singh, National Awardee and Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary), Ferozepur, has stressed that education and awareness are the most effective tools to prevent drug abuse among youth and build a drug-free society.
In a statement, Dr Singh said drug abuse had emerged as a serious social challenge, particularly among the younger generation. He said Punjab, being a border state, had faced additional challenges due to the supply of drugs from across the border. The growing addiction among youth was not only affecting their physical and mental health but also damaging their education, productivity, family life and future prospects.
He said young people were the strength and future of the country and every effort should be made to protect them from falling into the trap of addiction. Rather than treating drug-dependent persons merely as criminals, society should approach them with empathy, compassion and a supportive attitude.
Dr Singh emphasised that strict laws and police action alone could not provide a permanent solution to the drug menace. Educational institutions and teachers, he said, had a vital role in creating a positive environment for students and encouraging their participation in sports, cultural and literary activities.
He urged parents, teachers, educational institutions, government agencies and society to work collectively to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.
“Staying away from drugs is not merely a choice, but a responsibility towards one’s life, family and future,” he said.
