Chandigarh, October 29, 2026: The Punjab Finance Department has sought detailed information from all administrative departments regarding the financial implications of implementing court orders in the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) case, following the judgment in Civil Writ Petition No. 7291 of 2026, titled Nirmal Singh Dhanoa & Others vs. State of Punjab & Others.
In a letter dated October 29, 2026, issued by the Finance Personnel-I Branch, the department has directed all Special Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries and Administrative Secretaries to submit complete details of the financial implications involved in implementing the orders passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case and other connected matters, including subsequent Letters Patent Appeals (LPAs).
The instructions also cover cases pertaining to boards, corporations and other related entities.
According to the letter, the information is required to enable the Finance Department to assess the overall financial burden and make appropriate budgetary provisions for effective implementation of the court’s orders.
The communication refers to an earlier letter issued on August 17, 2026, and directs all administrative departments to ensure strict compliance with the latest instructions and take further necessary action.
The development comes amid continuing proceedings concerning the release of pending DA benefits to Punjab government employees and pensioners. However, the latest letter does not specify any payment deadline or announce a fresh decision on the release of DA arrears.
