Chandigarh, November 2, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday responded to questions about a possible NDA government in Punjab, following repeated assertions by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the alliance would form the next government in the state.
During a press conference, when asked about Shah’s statements, Majithia responded in a sarcastic tone, telling the reporter to approach the Union Home Minister directly for clarification.
“Why are you getting a stomach ache over this? Go to Shah Sahib. He will clarify the situation for you,” Majithia said.
Referring to the three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, the Akali leader said reporters should also seek answers from Shah about their political move.
“My brother, ask Shah Sahib about the three who left today as well. Why are you seeking explanations from a poor man like me? What if I get you into some other trouble?” he remarked.
Majithia added that Shah had already explained the situation and said there was little he could do if people chose not to accept the Union Home Minister’s statement.
In a lighter exchange with the reporter, Majithia also asked whether the journalist’s “affection” was for former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“Since he (Amit Shah) has said it, what can I do if I don’t accept it?” Majithia said, adding that the meaning of NDA was understood by everyone as an alliance.
His remarks came amid renewed political discussions over possible alliances in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. However, Majithia did not explicitly confirm whether the Shiromani Akali Dal would join the NDA or enter into an alliance with the BJP.
