Chandigarh, January 1, 2016: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member parliament Bhagwant Mann has earned notoriety for putting his foot in mouth repeatedly by making ludicrous statements. He reduced himself to a laughing butt when he stated on Saturday that Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was looking for a safe constituency for the ensuring Punjab assembly polls. Lambasting Mann for making such stupid and absurd statement emanating from his gross ignorance and limited understanding of politics, Punjab education minister and senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said that Badal at present is the tallest leader not only in Punjab but in the entire country and can win with comfortable majority from any of 117 constituencies even if the entire opposition joins hands against him. “ AAP looks for safe seats and not Akalis or Badal”, quipped Cheema.
Cheema said that Mann being comedian does attract spectators at his poll shows which give him an erroneous impression of political support. By making absurd statements, Mann turns the serious stage of politics into theatre of absurd. During the last assembly elections in 2012 as People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), vice president Mann was humbled though ,then too, he used to attract crowds. Since he is a mere comedian, people are unlikely to take him seriously. People regret having committed a mistake in 2014 as they had returned a non-serious man, drunkard who venture to attend religious ceremonies in inebriated state and one who dared to commit breach of security and thus endangered august parliament house. Cheema said that as novice and unwilling to learn, Mann should realize that Badal had been in electoral politics since 1957 and remained Punjab chief minister for five times – two times consecutively during the last ten years. In the last four assembly elections, Badal had successfully contested from Lambi constituency despite the Congress, CPI and other opposition parties had made their every effort to defeat him. However, for tactical reasons, the party was holding back announcement of his candidature.
Besides, Badal had led the SAD-BJP alliance to victory by cornering 45 percent and 42 percent votes and wrecked the long time held myth of Punjab politics that electorate return Akalis and Congress by turn in the assembly polls by ensuring second successive win. And veteran of poll battles, Badal is sure to hit hat-trick by third successive win in the assembly polls.
