Mansa (Punjab), October 24, 2026: Preparations have been completed for statewide broom-burning protests on October 25 to demand justice in the murder case of Parvinder Singh Jhota and stronger action against drugs, the action committee said on Saturday.
The committee has appealed to people, including farmers, labourers, employees and youth, to participate in the protests.
During the demonstrations, protesters will burn brooms as a mark of protest against the Punjab government and pass resolutions against drugs. The committee said the resolutions would call for curbing drug trafficking, protecting young people from addiction and fixing government accountability.
The committee said the protest was aimed at standing in solidarity with Jhota’s family and carrying forward the anti-drug campaign associated with him. Referring to families who have lost their sons to drugs, it appealed to people to unite to prevent more families from suffering similar losses.
The action committee reiterated its demand for the resignations of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, saying it remained firm on the issue.
