Remembering late Punjabi poet Pash on his birth anniversary....Prof Chaman Lal
Amritsar: Punjabi poet Avtar Singh Sandhu, better known as Pash was born on September 9. He was born in 1950 at Talwandi Salem village in Jalandhar district.
He was assassinated by Khalistani religious fundamentalists on 23rd March 1988 at his Village, the day he was to leave for USA, where he had settled with his wife and only daughter Winkle who was just 8 years then!
One of his most famous and relevant for all time poems 'Sab ton Khatarnak' has been highlighted in 8th September 2024 Punjabi Tribune from Chandigarh with its former-editor and Punjabi poet Swarajbeer meaningful article and Pash photograph clicked by another London-based Punjabi poet Amarjit Chandan.
On his birthday, which was once called Kavita Diwas, Amarjit Chandan, shared an original Punjabi poem and it's translations in Hindi and English!
My first Hindi translation collection of Pash poems Beech ka Rasta Nahin Hota was released on his first anniversary 23rd March 1989 in Delhi, it has run into many editions and continues to do so.
Pash is much popular poet in Hindi and his translations in many other Indian languages have been done from Hindi.My works on Bhagat Singh and Pash have been well received by the readers.
