Amritsar DC launches clean food initiative 'Swach Dukan-Swasth Pakwan'

Amritsar, October 15, 2024 - Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Sakshi Sawheny has launched a groundbreaking initiative to promote a clean environment and healthy cuisine in the district.
The program aims to ensure food safety and hygiene in local eateries, hotels, restaurants, dhabas, dairies, and bakeries.
Describing this initiative Civil Surgeon Dr. Kirandeep Kaur said that Committees formed at the sub-division level will conduct daily inspections and report to the district-level nodal officer.
She said that after examining the reports 3-5 shops in each sub-division will receive cleanliness certificates under the Swach Dukan-Swasth Pakwan award every week.She stated that Shopkeepers with poor performance will face action as per rules.
She said that on the very first day, a joint team of the Health Department and Police raided a dairy near Sher Shah Suri Road and exposed the making of adulterated cheese.The team recovered 20 quintals of dry milk, 75 kg of refined oil, and 100 kg of prepared cheese.
Assistant Food Safety Commissioner Rajinderpal Singh said that Seized entire stock of skimmed milk powder, refined oil, and 5 samples were sent to a lab for testing.
He said after receiving the report form lab action will be taken against the accused under the Food Safety Act. This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring food safety and promoting healthy eating habits in Amritsar district.
