Shaheed Bhagat State University celebrates National Sports Day with enthusiasm

Ferozepur, September 2, 2024: Shaheed Bhagat State University, Ferozepur, celebrated National Sports Day under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Dr Sushil Mittal and Registrar Dr Ghazal Preet Singh. The event was organized by the campus Polytechnic Wing, led by Principal Dr. Sanjeev Devra, in collaboration with the District Youth Services Department, the NSS unit, and Red Ribbon Clubs.
National Sports Day is celebrated annually across the country in honour of Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary. Known as the “Wizard of Hockey,” Major Dhyan Chand is remembered for his incredible goal-scoring feats and unmatched ball control, which led India to three Olympic gold medals in field hockey.
During the event, students from the university participated with great enthusiasm in various sports activities, including volleyball, tug of war, badminton, cricket, chess, and more. Principal Dr. Sanjeev Devra, while awarding medals and certificates to the winning athletes, encouraged them to follow in Major Dhyan Chand’s footsteps and bring pride to the nation. He emphasized the importance of making sports an integral part of their lives.
Registrar Dr Ghazal Preet Singh also congratulated the winners. The event was attended by PRO and Nodal Officer Yashpal, Professor Gurjeevan Singh (Nodal Officer and Program Officer NSS), Dr Kamal Khanna (Sports Incharge, Polytechnic Wing), Rajesh Singla, Jagdeep Singh Mangat, Gurpreet Singh, Professor Navdeep Kaur, Jagmeet Singh, and Talwinder Singh (Assistant Incharge Sports), along with university staff and students.
The celebration highlighted the university's commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture and inspiring the youth to pursue excellence in athletics.
