Chandigarh, April 8, 2025: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP Punjab Incharge, Manish Sisodia, visited playgrounds in villages Charrian (Chamkaur Sahib) and Behrampur Zimidara today (on Tuesday). These playgrounds are built under the state government’s plan to develop sports facilities in every village.
Sisodia was accompanying Punjab’s Rural Development and Panchayats Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, who was inspecting the playgrounds. Sisodia lauded the Punjab government’s efforts to enhance rural infrastructure and promote sports culture.
Speaking about the initiative, Sisodia said, "The Punjab government has launched a plan to build a playground in every village across the state. This ensures that no village is left without a space for children to play and grow. These playgrounds will be equipped with basic amenities like tracks, lighting, and facilities for specific sports. Such efforts are vital for inspiring youth to focus on sports, education, and jobs while staying away from societal evils like drug addiction. This initiative is not just a step towards creating sportspersons of the future but also an indicator of Punjab's progress."
He further praised Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh's hands-on approach, saying, "Sondh Sahib is personally inspecting these playgrounds, and I felt compelled to join him to witness the remarkable work being done. These playgrounds ensure children no longer have to travel far to access sports facilities; every village will have its own ground where young talents can thrive."
Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh highlighted that over 4,000 playgrounds have been constructed in the past three years, with an investment of crores of rupees.
He announced that the recent budget includes provisions for the construction of 9,000 new playgrounds to fulfill the vision of ensuring every village in Punjab has its own sports facility.
During his inspections, Minister Sondh directed officials to enhance the quality of existing playgrounds and expedite the construction process in villages yet to receive such facilities.
He emphasized that these efforts align with the Punjab government’s mission to engage youth in productive activities, reduce drug abuse, and foster a new generation of talented sportspersons who will bring pride to Punjab and India.
The initiative, inspired by the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, aims to revolutionize rural development by integrating sports into the daily lives of Punjab’s youth.
By offering well-equipped playgrounds within villages, the program not only addresses recreational needs but also creates an environment conducive to skill-building and physical fitness.
