Punjab Govt aims for 80 % reduction in Dengue cases through awareness campaign: Dr. Balbir Singh
Launches 'Har Shukarvar Dengue te Vaar' campaign from Aam Aadmi Clinic, Phase 7, Mohali

Mohali (Punjab), May 9, 2025: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh announced today that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has set a target to reduce dengue cases by 80 percent this season through a comprehensive awareness campaign. Last year, similar efforts led to a 50 percent decline in dengue cases.
Dr. Balbir Singh, who arrived at the Aam Aadmi Clinic in Phase 7 of Mohali today to launch the anti-dengue awareness campaign 'Har Shukarwar Dengu Te Vaar' with the participation of nursing students, ASHA workers, multipurpose health workers, doctors and other officials, said that under the anti-dengue awareness campaign, this time 20 lakh students of Punjab have been trained to identify and eliminate dengue mosquito breeding sites in their homes and schools.
He said that apart from this, the Health Department has prepared a house to house survey campaign to curb dengue mosquito breeding with the help of about 1 lakh manpower.
He said that since dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnated and clean water, the people of the state are encouraged to empty their coolers, back trays of refrigerators, old tires, flower pots, water containers kept for feeding birds every week, to prevent mosquito larvae growth, which takes a week to mature.
Dr Singh emphasised that dengue mosquitoes breed in clean, stagnant water, and simple preventive measures can significantly reduce cases.
Terming doctors, paramedical workers, multi-purpose health workers and ASHA workers of the Health Department as important parts of the Health and Family Welfare Department, he said that their job is to protect people from the dengue enemy present inside their homes like the brave soldiers fighting on the borders of the country.
He said that if we fulfil our responsibility with dedication, we can not only reduce the number of dengue cases but also save precious lives.
Welcoming the action taken by the brave soldiers of the country to give a befitting reply to the forces supporting terrorism in the current situation, he said that state hospitals are fully prepared to deal with any emergency and medical staff night shifts have been increased.
He said that just as our brave forces are neutralizing the drone attacks on the country and Punjab in the air, similarly the doctors, paramedics and other staff of the Health and Family Welfare Department are committed to do their duty with full dedication to handle any kind of emergency.
He said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Health and Family Welfare Department is ready to deal with any kind of situation.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, Director, Health and Family Welfare Department Dr Hatinder Kaur, SDM Damandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain, SMO Dr Preet Kanwal, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Girish Dogra, District Epidemiologists Dr Anamika and Dr Harman Brar and a large number of nursing students, ASHA workers and multipurpose health workers of the health department were present.
On this occasion, breeding of dengue mosquitoes was checked at various places and spraying was done. People were made aware to observe dry day every Friday to protect themselves from dengue mosquitoes.
