Ferozepur, May 15, 2026: An awareness banner was released in connection with World Hypertension Day to promote awareness activities across all health institutions in the district, by Civil Surgeon Dr Meenakshi Dhingra. Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Sushma Thakkar and District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Vivek Rajora was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meenakshi Dhingra said that hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the major causes of several serious health problems such as stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, and may also contribute to dementia. She stated that many people suffering from hypertension remain unaware of their condition as it often shows no symptoms, and many come to know about it only after suffering a heart attack or stroke. She added that the main objective of observing World Hypertension Day is to spread awareness about high blood pressure and encourage timely diagnosis and control.
District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Vivek Rajora informed that more than 30 percent of the world’s population, over one billion people, are affected by hypertension. He said that hypertension is becoming a growing health concern in India and is placing a significant burden on the healthcare system. He added that blood pressure should ideally remain below 140/90 for the general population and below 130/80 for hypertensive patients with diabetes or serious kidney disease. Though hypertension has no permanent cure, its impact can be controlled through proper medication and lifestyle changes, thereby improving quality of life.
District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy MMO Ankush Bhandari and Neha Bhandari emphasized that healthy lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet, reduced salt intake, avoiding alcohol and smoking, regular physical activity, stress management, maintaining healthy body weight, taking medicines regularly, and following doctors’ advice can help keep blood pressure under control to a great extent.
