In a historic first: Army Officer Wife’s heart airlifted from Chandigarh to Delhi, transplanted in 14 year old boy in record 86 minutes

Chandigarh/New Delhi, May 4, 2026: In a historic first an Army Officer Wife’s heart was airlifted from Chandigarh to Delhi and two green corridors were created to ensure that heart is transplanted in a 14 year old Sudanese boy in Delhi hospital.
According to a report of ‘The Indian Express’ an Army Officer’s wife was admitted at Command Hospital Panchkula with brain haemorrhage on May 2. Her chances of revival was almost zero when her husband and her two daughters decided to donate her organs. A 14 year old Sudanese boy who was admitted with critical condition at Indraprasth Apollo hospital needed this heart.
Different agencies of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Delhi Police apart from Airport Authorities coordinated for this operation. From Command hospital to Chandigarh Airport green corridor was created which ensured that heart reached airport in 34 minutes, later 3 minutes were spent on boarding special private jet flight. Flight was airborne at 6.51 PM and touched down at Delhi airport at 7.20 PM.
From there Delhi Police had created green corridor from airport to Indraprasth Apollo hospital and it reached there in 20 minutes.
Within an hour of landing the heart was successfully transplanted into 14 year old boy.
