Chandigarh, January 11, 2025: Surat-based fusion band The Tapi Project, known for blending folk traditions with contemporary sounds, will perform in Chandigarh on Monday, January 12, at 5:30 PM at Punjab Kala Bhawan. The concert is organized by Thinkers Collective, an initiative of the Institute for Development and Communication (IDC).

The band, comprising Yogendra Saniawala (instruments, lyrics), Swati Minaxi (lead vocals), Gaurav Kapadia (drums), and Biju Nambiar, has performed in over 30 countries across Europe and Asia. Their music is recognized for its genre-defying style, fusing jazz, rock, funk, folk, and spoken word.
Speaking about their approach, Swati Minaxi says, “Tapi’s words and music are reflections of our surroundings and manifested reality, acting as a mirror for anyone who wants to look into them and find themselves.” Yogendra Saniawala adds, “Traditions are a light from which one ignites their own identity. We just move ahead from one light to another.”

The band emphasizes organic creativity, allowing music to emerge naturally rather than forcing a particular style or experience. Drummer Gaurav Kapadia notes, “There is always enough space for the audience to interpret and take back their own emotions and stories.” Biju Nambiar describes the band as “travellers absorbing experiences, which then form the very basis of our music.”
Dr Pramod Kumar, Chairperson of IDC, stated, “It was important for Thinkers Collective to bring a band whose sound is rooted in society. Their music addresses human experiences, climate, and societal issues. They are not a sanitized, privileged band—they speak of subaltern experiences in a bold, experimental style.”
