In a major boost to green and modern rail transport, the Railway Board has approved the operation of India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-based DEMU train on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana.
The 10-coach hydrogen-powered DPRS 1200 kilowatt DEMU train will operate at a maximum speed of 75 kilometres per hour, marking a significant technological milestone for Indian Railways and the country’s clean energy transport ambitions.
Reacting to the development, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for allotting the country’s first hydrogen fuel cell-based train to the state.
Saini described the project as a historic achievement for Haryana and said it reflects the Centre’s commitment to promoting futuristic, environment-friendly and technology-driven public transportation systems.
