Adampur: Two Police officials found dead after juveniles escapes custody
Initial investigation points to toxic substance as cause of death

Jalandhar, October 8, 2024: In a tragic turn of events, two police officers from Hoshiarpur district were found dead after a juvenile accused escaped custody near Adampur while being transported from Kapurthala court to Hoshiarpur Juvenile Jail. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Jalandhar Rural Police.
The police team was escorting two juvenile accused. One of them, Amandeep @ Kalu, aged 17, is facing charges including murder, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy under FIR No. 67 of 2024 at PS City Kapurthala.
The second accused, Dev Kumar, aged 17.5, is charged under FIR No. 184 of 2024 at PS City Kapurthala for gang rape and offences under the POCSO Act.
Amandeep @ Kalu escaped custody near Adampur Bus Stand while returning from court. Despite immediate pursuit by LR/ASI Jiwan Lal and LR/ASI Pritam Dass, the accused evaded capture. Subsequently, the bodies of the two officers were discovered at Adampur Railway Station. Preliminary reports suggest they consumed a toxic substance.
LR/ASI Harjinder Singh, the third officer, successfully retained custody of the second accused, Dev Kumar, and promptly informed the authorities about the incident.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said that upon receiving information about the incident, a police team led by SHO Adampur, under the supervision of DSP Adampur, rushed to the spot and immediately launched a probe into the matter.
In this regard a case has been registered against the escaped juvenile, Amandeep @ Kalu. A thorough investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fugitive.
The Police team led by SHO Adampur under the supervision of DSP Adampur is assisting the GRP with proceedings under Section 174 CrPC concerning the deaths of the two officers.
The SSP Khakh expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased officers and assured them that all necessary support would be provided.
Last rites will be performed in accordance with protocol, ensuring that the deceased officers are honored in the presence of their families.
The Jalandhar Rural Police is actively working in coordination with Hoshiarpur Police to bring the matter to a swift and lawful resolution, said SSP Khakh.
