Chandigarh Beware! This new drug being sold near schools; advisory issued

Chandigarh, February 11, 2025: Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights has written to the Chandigarh Administration, urging the latter to issue advisory on the sale and purchase of drug "Strawberry Quick" near schools.
"It is brought to your immediate attention regarding the circulation of a new drug known as "Strawberry Quick" among school children in Chandigarh. This drug, allegedly disguised as candy in various flavors such as chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape, and orange, poses a serious risk to the health and safety of young students. It has also come to our notice that this drug is being sold and purchased near school premises, making children highly vulnerable to addiction and harmful consequences," Shipra Bansal, Chairperson of Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, wrote to Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration.

Urgent Advisory on the Sale and Purchase of the Drug "Strawberry Quick" Near Schools
The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has been constituted under section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) Act, 2005 vide a notification issued by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs vide Notification no. F.No. 11030/1/2007-UTL dated 7th August, 2013 as a monitoring body on child rights.
It is brought to your immediate attention regarding the circulation of a new drug known as "Strawberry Quick" among school children in Chandigarh.
This drug, allegedly disguised as candy in various flavours such as chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape, and orange, poses a serious risk to the health and safety of young students.
It has also come to our notice that this drug is being sold and purchased near school premises, making children highly vulnerable to addiction and harmful consequences.
As a precautionary measure, it is imperative to take urgent and stringent action to curb the distribution of this dangerous substance.
Suggestive measures: -
1. Increase police patrolling around school zones to monitor and prevent drug transactions.
2. Conduct regular inspections in and around schools to identify and eliminate potential sources of drug distribution.
3. Organize awareness programs for students, teachers, and parents to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse.
4. Encourage school administrations to conduct counselling sessions and inform students
about the risks of accepting unknown substances from strangers or even peers.
5. Take strict legal action against individuals involved in the sale and distribution of such drugs, ensuring that offenders face severe penalties.
