DC inspects Sutlej banks; assures preparedness, urges residents to stay calm
Ferozepur, August 12, 2025: With heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh raising the water level of the Sutlej River during the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma visited the riverfront village of Tendi Wala to review the water level and assess the strength of embankments. She also inspected conditions at the Hussainiwala Headworks.
The DC assured that the district administration has made all necessary arrangements to deal with any potential flood-like situation and to safeguard lives and property. She said that while the water level in both the Beas and Sutlej rivers has increased, proactive measures are in place to handle any emergency.
During her visit, she interacted with residents of riverbank villages, listened to their concerns, and directed officials to further strengthen embankments with sandbags and machinery to prevent any damage in case of rising water. She also instructed repairs to boats used by villagers and promised to discuss the demand for permanent embankment reinforcement with higher authorities.
DC appealed to residents to cooperate with the administration in fortifying embankments and informed them that flood control rooms have been established at the district and sub-divisional levels to respond promptly to any emergency.
SDM Gurmeet Singh Mann, DDPO Harjinder Singh, and officers from the drainage, irrigation, and other departments were present during the inspection.
