Farmers demand immediate surveys for compensation amidst natural calamities
Ferozepur, March 2, 2025: In his video message, Tajveer Singh Panjokhra, farmer leader representing SKM(NP) from Ambala, appealed to the government to expedite the 'girdawari' process, enabling early compensation to the distressed farmers. The farming community hopes the administration will take prompt action to provide relief to those whose livelihoods have been severely affected by the recent natural calamities.
Farmers' leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, representing KMM Punjab Unit, in his video message from Amritsar, also criticized the government's selective use of satellite technology. He alleges that it is only activated during October to identify stubble burning cases and issue notices or register FIRs against farmers. However, no such prompt action is taken to assess crop damage caused by natural calamities.
Pandher highlighted that recent heavy rains and hailstorms in various parts of Punjab have inflicted significant damage on standing crops, yet the administration has failed to carry out immediate surveys to evaluate the farmers' losses. He urged the government to deploy satellite technology to verify the extent of damage and issue orders for 'girdawari' (crop loss assessment) to ensure timely compensation to the affected farmers.
Appreciating the ongoing war against drugs, with hundreds of drug smugglers and peddlers arrested and large quantities of contraband seized, Pandher made it clear that targeting consumers alone would not curb the drug menace. He emphasized that the root cause could only be eradicated by arresting big drug traders, questioning how many of them had been apprehended so far.
