Drug smuggler injured in Ferozepur encounter, over 2 kg heroin, pistol seized
Ferozepur, March 2, 2025: In a breakthrough against drug smuggling, Ferozepur police arrested a drug smuggler after a fierce encounter at the Grain Market naka on Sunday. The accused, identified as Baljinder Singh alias Ladi from Dharamkot, sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the cross-firing. The police recovered more than 2.114 kg of heroin and a pistol from his possession.
Following the directions of Punjab Chief Minister and DGP Punjab to intensify action against drug trafficking, the police had set up a naka near grain market Ferozepur Cantt. SSP Bhupinder Singh informed that the accused was on his way to deliver heroin from Moga when he was intercepted by the police. On being stopped, the smuggler opened fire on the police party, leading to retaliatory firing in which the accused was injured.
During the exchange of fire, a police personnel was also injured, and the police vehicle sustained damage. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered the contraband and the weapon. The vehicle had black film on its windows, indicating its use for illegal activities.
The injured smuggler was shifted to Civil Hospital Ferozepur, but due to his critical condition, he is reported to have been referred to another hospital for advanced treatment.
SSP Bhupinder Singh stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain if the accused had any accomplices or if any other consignment or accomplice was dropped en route. The police have registered a case and are determined to crack down on drug smuggling networks in the district.
This successful operation is seen as a significant step towards curbing the drug menace and sending a strong message to those involved in such illegal activities.
