Chandigarh, February 12, 2022: Former Justice Ajit Singh Bains, a philanthropist and defender of human rights, passed away yesterday at the age of 99 after completing a successful life journey.
The Kirti Kisan Forum, an organisation of former IAS, IPS, Army and other officers, has expressed its deepest condolences on the passing away of this warrior, who, as a Judge, was known for his strong pro-people stance and was a great defender of the fundamental rights of the minorities.
Presiding over the special meeting of the forum, Swaran Singh Boparai, former Secretary to the Union Government and RI Singh, former Chief Secretary of Punjab, said the eternal departure of the Ajit Singh Bains was an irreparable loss.
They apprised the former officers present in the meeting that Justice Bains was born in 1922 in Bara village of Jalandhar district.
As an advocate, he practiced in the Punjab High Court, Chandigarh in 1961 and became Judge of this High Court in 1974. After his retirement in 1984, he established the Punjab Human Rights Organization and worked on the human rights front with great zeal and dedication.
"People strongly resented his arrest by the then Government in 1992. He exposed fake police encounters through his NGO. Besides that, he exposed Kidney Transplant scam. With his leaving to the abode of the God, Punjab has lost a beautiful soul that fearlessly raised his voice against all those who were involved in the blatant violation of human rights in the late 1980s and early 1990s," said Swaran Singh Boparai.
All the present members of Kirti Kisan Forum observed a two minute silence in homage to the departed soul.
