Chandigarh, December 1, 2025: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today heard the parole petition filed by Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, seeking permission to attend the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 8.
During the proceedings, the High Court directed the Punjab government to submit all relevant documents and records justifying why Amritpal Singh should not be granted parole.
Amritpal Singh’s lawyer, Advocate Imaan Singh Khara, told the media that an alternative request was also presented to the court. He proposed that if security concerns prevent granting custody parole, the MP should be allowed to participate in parliamentary proceedings via video conferencing. This measure, he added, is intended to protect Amritpal Singh’s constitutional rights as a Member of Parliament.
Advocate Khara further revealed that they plan to challenge the application of the National Security Act (NSA) against Amritpal Singh in court. Previously, the Punjab government had denied the parole request citing potential security risks, a decision now under judicial scrutiny. The High Court will review the government’s records before making its next ruling.
