Amritsar/Ajnala, October 22, 2025: In a significant announcement for Punjab’s border belt, Aam Aadmi Party MLA and former Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal revealed that the proposed Government College at Bikraur has received Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s approval, and the project’s financial proposal is now under consideration by the Punjab Finance Department for final sanction.
Dhaliwal made the announcement during a series of meetings held at Block Balrawal and Block Raipur Kalan, attended by several border village sarpanches, where he discussed upcoming development initiatives in the Ajnala constituency.
He said that starting November 1, a continuous round of infrastructure and welfare projects will be launched across the area and completed in a transparent and time-bound manner by March 31, 2026.
The MLA, who recently met AAP National Convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi to exchange Diwali greetings, and later called on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in Chandigarh on his birthday, said the government remains committed to equitable development and the upliftment of Punjab’s 553 km border region, which includes 10 towns and 1,838 villages.
Criticizing previous state and central governments for neglecting the border belt since independence, Dhaliwal said that farmers, laborers, and small traders, who serve as the second line of defense after the BSF, have long been deprived of employment opportunities and basic development facilities. He added that the lack of agriculture-based industries and higher education institutions has forced many border families, particularly from the Rai Sikh community, to migrate frequently in search of livelihood.
Dhaliwal further disclosed that he has raised a formal demand with Union Minister of State for Railways S. Ravneet Singh Bittu to extend the Amritsar–Ajnala–Balrawal railway line up to the historic town of Ramdas, calling it a “lifeline project” that would boost employment and trade in the region. He strongly criticized former legislators and ministers from the Congress and Akali-BJP alliances for failing to pursue this issue in Parliament or with railway authorities.
Prominent among those present during the meetings were Khushpal Singh Dhaliwal, DSP Gurvinder Singh Aulakh, PA Mukhtiar Singh Balrawal, Sarpanch Kulwinder Singh, Sarpanch Jagir Singh, Sarpanch Jagtar Singh, S. Hardev Singh Dalla, Ragbir Singh (Block In-charge), Parmjit Singh, Kulwant Singh, Sarbjit Singh, Sarpanch Sonu Singh, Rajbir Singh, Ninder Singh Khanwal, Sarpanch Natesh, and other village representatives.
