MLA Bhullar flags off Food Safety Van in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 7, 2026: In a major initiative to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public, the Punjab Government on Monday launched a Food Safety Fortnight campaign. Marking the beginning of the drive, Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar flagged off a ‘Food Safety Van’ under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajeev Parashar.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Bhullar said that the van, equipped with modern testing instruments, will visit various markets and localities to conduct on-the-spot testing of food items and provide instant reports. He added that the initiative will also help raise awareness among the public about the quality and purity of food products.
Describing it as a mobile laboratory, Bhullar said the van is fitted with advanced machinery capable of testing items such as milk, ghee, paneer, edible oils, and spices. Residents will now be able to get food samples tested within minutes, eliminating long waiting periods.
He further emphasized that the campaign will educate people on identifying adulterated food items even at home. Issuing a stern warning, Bhullar stated that the Punjab Government will not spare anyone found compromising public health, adding that strict action will be taken against offenders.
“The Food Safety Van will act as a protective shield for the citizens. Those involved in food adulteration will now face direct scrutiny at their doorstep,” he said.
Among others present on the occasion were Dr. Meenakshi Dhingra, District Immunization Officer; Dr. Mandeep Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer; Dr. Amarveer Sidhu, District Health Officer; Dr. Manmeet; Ankush Bhandari, Deputy Mass Media Officer; Vikas Kalra, PA to Civil Surgeon; Himanshu Thakkar, PA to MLA, along with other officials and staff of the Health Department.
