Chandigarh, March 28, 2025: The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has announced that there will be no tariff hike for the financial year 2025-26, providing relief to consumers across the state.
In its latest tariff order, PSERC has merged the existing 1-100 unit and 101-300 unit slabs into a single 0-300 unit category, while ensuring that electricity bills remain unaffected by this change.
Key Tariff Adjustments for Domestic Consumers
- For loads up to 2 kW – ₹5.40 per unit for the first 300 units.
- For loads between 2 kW and 7 kW – ₹5.72 per unit for the first 300 units.
- For loads above 7 kW – ₹6.44 per unit for the first 300 units.
- Slight reduction in variable charges – 2 paise/unit cut for consumption up to 500 units for consumers with loads up to 20 kW.
Relief Measures for Industries
- Small and Medium Supply Industry: No change in tariffs.
- Large Supply Industry:
- Only two slabs introduced—one for 100-1000 kVA (fixed charge reduced from ₹220/kW to ₹210/kW) and another for 1000 kVA and above (fixed charge ₹280/kVAh, lower than the previous merged slabs).
Punjab Government’s Subsidy Commitment
The state government will provide a total subsidy of ₹19,657 crore, covering:
- ₹10,413 crore for agricultural subsidies.
- ₹6,859 crore for free 300-unit domestic power consumers.
- ₹2,384 crore in subsidies for industrial consumers.
Additionally, small power consumers will receive electricity at ₹5.835 per kVAh with a full waiver of fixed charges, while medium supply consumers will get 50% waiver on fixed charges with the same concessional rate. Large supply consumers will continue without fixed charge waivers.
The PSERC emphasized that these changes aim to simplify billing, support industries, and maintain affordability for consumers without increasing overall electricity costs.
