PAU distributes Wheat, Mustard seed to flood-affected farmers
Ferozepur, November 4, 2025: In a dedicated effort to support the rehabilitation of farmers affected by recent floods, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana organized a training and seed distribution camp today at village Tendi Wala in district Ferozepur. The initiative was led by PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, accompanied by Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director (Extension Education), and Dr. Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director (Extension Education). Teams from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Farm Advisory Service Center also participated.
The main objective of the camp was to provide high-quality wheat and mustard seed to farmers for the upcoming Rabi season and to share scientific guidance for better crop management. Dr. Gurmail Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Ferozepur, welcomed the chief guests and farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gosal said that PAU has always stood firmly with the farmers. He shared that PAU faculty and staff voluntarily contributed from their salaries to support relief efforts. As part of this assistance, PAU is distributing 725 quintals of improved wheat seed and 5 quintals of canola mustard seed across various flood-affected districts. Continuing this initiative, 100 quintals of wheat varieties PBW 677, PBW 824, and PBW Zinc-2, and 2.20 quintals of canola mustard variety GSC-7 were distributed to farmers in Tendi Wala today.
Dr. Bhullar advised farmers to follow the recommended sowing time and techniques to achieve higher yields. He also emphasized soil and water testing to assess the impact of floodwater on land fertility. Dr. Dhillon encouraged farmers to adopt crop diversification, integrated farming systems, and cultivation of vegetables and fruits to enhance income, particularly for those with smaller landholdings.
At the conclusion of the event, local village representatives, ex-servicemen, and members of United Sikh organization appreciated PAU’s relief support. The beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude to PAU officials for standing by them in a time of need.
