Rajya Sabha Member and noted industrialist Rajinder Gupta, who is also a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance, met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman here on Tuesday to discuss issues related to industry and economic growth.
Mr Gupta, one of the country’s leading business and industry figures, highlighted the need to further improve the ease of doing business for MSMEs as well as middle and large industries, with special focus on the border state of Punjab. He underlined concerns related to regulatory processes, availability of finance and policy support required to strengthen industrial activity and employment generation.
During the meeting, Rajinder Gupta briefed the Finance Minister on the country’s industrial landscape, particularly the business environment in Punjab and North India. He appreciated the economic reforms undertaken by the central government over the past few years and the steps taken towards “Ease of Doing Business.” Rajinder Gupta stated that under the Finance Minister’s able leadership, the Indian economy is moving forward strongly despite global challenges.
As an experienced industrialist, Rajinder Gupta also shared several important suggestions to make the textile industry more competitive at the global level. He emphasized the need to strengthen the availability of raw materials, export incentive schemes, and financial support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He expressed confidence that government initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” would prove to be milestones in making the country a global manufacturing hub.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman listened attentively to the suggestions put forward by Rajinder Gupta and appreciated his efforts towards industrial development. She stated that the government is committed to resolving industry-related issues and formulating growth-friendly policies. Measures to strengthen the country’s middle class and rural economy were also discussed during the meeting.
During the interaction, Rajinder Gupta also briefly informed the Finance Minister about various social welfare programs being run through the Trident Group and his institutions. He explained how these initiatives, focused on skill development and women empowerment, are contributing to nation-building.
This was Gupta’s first formal meeting with the Finance Minister after his nomination to the Rajya Sabha and his induction into the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance. In recent weeks, Gupta has also met other Union Ministers to raise sector-specific concerns.
It may be recalled that Mr Gupta has earlier raised issues related to the Halwara Airport project and the rights and welfare of children during proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, reflecting his engagement with both developmental and social issues at the parliamentary level.
