Rana Sodhi slams misuse of LARR Act-2013; Vows to defend Punjab’s farmland and heritage, farmers’ rights
Ferozepur, July 9, 2025: Former Punjab Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi has emerged as a strong voice against the alleged government plans to acquire large portions of agricultural land across Punjab. Speaking on the issue, he asserted that farmland—the backbone of Punjab’s villages—must be protected at all costs.
Rana Sodhi highlighted that over 40,000 acres of land across Punjab, including 313 acres in Ferozepur, are reportedly being targeted under land acquisition policies. He strongly opposed such moves, emphasizing that Punjab’s identity is deeply rooted in its villages and agriculture.
He warned that such policies could turn fertile lands barren under the guise of urbanization, which would severely impact Punjab’s standing as the food basket of India.
Rana Sodhi also rejected the misuse of the LARR Act-2013 - Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 - under the pretext of "public utility" to forcibly acquire farmers’ lands. He termed it a threat not only to farmers’ livelihoods but also to Punjab’s soil, history, and heritage.
Highlighting that 42% of Punjab’s population depends directly on farming, he described the land acquisition move as an attack on rural families’ livelihood. He called it not development, but a death sentence for agriculture.
Rana Sodhi pledged to lead a strong movement alongside farmers in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar, and other regions. He warned that any attempt to forcibly acquire land without farmers’ consent would face massive public resistance.
Calling upon Punjabis to unite, he concluded, “This is not just a farmers’ fight; it’s every Punjabi’s duty to protect our land and heritage for future generations.”
