Road Tragedy: 63 killed in massive bus-truck-car collision

Kampala, October 22, 2025: At least 63 people lost their lives in a horrific road accident on Wednesday in Uganda, making it one of the deadliest collisions in recent years in the East African nation. The accident occurred on the highway leading to Gulu city, involving two buses and two other vehicles.
The crash took place in the early hours of the morning, and several others sustained serious injuries. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention.
Police reports indicate that the accident was caused by careless overtaking. Drivers of two buses traveling in opposite directions attempted to overtake simultaneously, colliding with the other vehicles near Kiryandongo town, leading to the catastrophic pile-up.
The Red Cross described the incident as a major tragedy. Spokesperson Bulara Irene Nakasita said many victims suffered severe fractures and were bloodied, highlighting the scale of the disaster.
