Pathankot (Punjab), March 28, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday claimed a major political boost in Pathankot and Gurdaspur as several leaders from the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party joined the party in the presence of its president, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Among the prominent entrants were former PADB Pathankot chairman Avtar Singh Kler and AAP leader Sanjeev Sharma, along with around 40 sitting and former members of Zila Parishads, Block Samitis, Sarpanches, and Panches.
Announcing organisational changes, Sukhbir Badal appointed Avtar Singh Kler as district president (Pathankot Rural) and Sanjeev Sharma as Halka in charge of Sujanpur.
Addressing the gathering, Badal said people of Punjab were increasingly looking towards regional leadership, asserting that SAD had a proven record of development, peace, and communal harmony, especially important in border areas.
Several other local leaders, including Vijay Baghi, Manjinder Kaur Kler, Anmoldeep Singh, Sushma Devi, and Ajay Mahajan, also joined the party.
Welcoming the new entrants, Badal said they would be given suitable responsibilities within the party.
