New Delhi, December 14, 2022: Speaking in the Rajyasabha today, MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney MP took up the issue of fund allocation to Punjab in Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana for skill training.
He also asked why this sharp decline is there for only Punjab, when the budgetary allocation under PMKVY in the financial year 2018-19 was 62.37 Cr, in 2019-20 was 57.69 Cr, 2020-21 was 67.55 Cr and 2021-22 is just 5.05 Cr.
Replying to the question Rajeev Chandrasekhar Minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship said that the drastic reduction in the budget allocation was due to COVID pandemic in which the skill centers were not running and the attendance of the students was very thin.
However, Minister did not comment on the current year allocation and start of PMKVY 4 scheme for skill training.
Vikramjit Singh reiterated that most of the multi-skill development centres are underutilized in Punjab due to no target being given to them for proper functioning. These skill centers are having very thin attendance actually.
