Ferozepur, November 21, 2024: The Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Committee held a meeting today to finalize preparations for the unveiling of a life-sized statue of Shaheed Udham Singh at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk. The event is scheduled for December 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM.
Udham Singh, a Sikh revolutionary, gets deeply affected by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and decides to avenge the lives of the people who died. He killed Michael O'Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of the Punjab, India in London to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He was hanged to death on July 31, 1940, for committing a murder. It is rightly said, "For every O’Dwyer, there is a Shaheed Udham Singh."
Bhagwan Singh Sama, President of the Memorial Committee, shared that the construction of the Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk is nearly complete after months of dedicated work. The inauguration ceremony will feature prominent figures, including Baba Jagtar Singh of Kar Sewa and other religious and social dignitaries.
Following the statue’s unveiling, a cultural program will be organized at Shaheed Udham Singh Bhavan. Renowned Punjabi singer Ravinder Grewal will perform to pay homage to the martyr.
Bhagwan Singh Sama emphasized the importance of following in the footsteps of martyrs, urging society to uphold social and national responsibilities. He highlighted that memorials serve to educate the youth about the sacrifices of freedom fighters and inspire them toward national ideals.
A special poster for the inauguration was released today during the meeting. Several dignitaries and committee members were present, including Jaspal Handa, Advocate Baljit Singh D.A., Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Gurnam Sidhu, and Parminder Singh Thind.
