Punjab Panchayat introduces landmark decisions; Rs 21000 fine for excessive spending on death rituals, promoting education and rewarding outstanding students with cash incentive

With the inspiration of Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmed Parrey, unique initiatives are being taken by the Panchayats of the district.
Newly elected Sarpanch Gurdeep Singh of Gram Panchayat Dikh, has taken exclusive initiatives to prevent wasteful expenditure and also decided to take action against social evils.
According to the decision s taken during the Gram Sabha, the Gram Panchayat has put up a ban on making jalebis and pakoras on the occasion of bhog (death) in the village and the violators will have to pay a fine of 21 thousand rupees in order to curb the unnecessary expenditure.
Apart from this, the Gram Panchayat has also decided to provide books and other financial assistance to the needy students of the village who are preparing for the higher education tests.
At the same time, taking turn on social issues, the Gram Panchayat has also decided to encourage the students that if any child of the village comes in the merit list in the field of education, he/she will be awarded with 21 thousand rupees.
For the purpose of curbing drugs, if anyone is caught selling prohibited medicines or pills etc. in the village, and then the panchayat will take legal action against him.
Similarly, the rupees (reward money) for the mahants were fixed. Keeping soil (Mud) or other materials in the streets of the village has been prohibited.
Similarly, it has been made necessary to install gate balls on the taps to prevent the misuse of water in the village. If the water bill is not paid, the connection will be disconnected.
To cultivate a healthier environment, Cigarettes and tobacco to children under 18 years of age in shops in the village has been prohibited.
No one will sound the horn in the village without wearing a chip to stop noise pollution.
Apart from this, it was decided to celebrate "Dhiyan Da Lohri" every year, ban on use of China Door and arrange coaches for the children. By celebrating 'Dhiyan Da Lohri' annually and promoting eco-friendly practices, Gram Panchayat Dikh is paving the way for a more sustainable future, empowering its community to thrive.
An estimated budget of 81 lakh 90 thousand rupees for the New Year’s Gram Panchayat Development Plans was passed in the general meeting. Among the development works to be done in the new budget are enclosure of grounds, construction of playgrounds for various sports, enclosure of water works. Park, pipe line for water supply, sub-centre building, Dharamsalas, street lights, Installation of CCTV cameras, repair of bus stand, construction of streets and canals and construction of memorial gate are included.
On this occasion, representative of Water Supply and Sanitation Department Harinder Singh shared information about the importance of water and GRS Angrez Singh and Panchayat Secretary Jaspreet Singh shared information about government schemes. Meanwhile, school children who excelled in different areas were also honored.
Head Teacher Madam Roshni Chawla, Master Surinder Singh, Madam Rimpi Bala, Panch Darshan Singh, Avtar Singh, Gora Singh, Rara Singh, Karnail Singh, Harwinderpal Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur, Simranjit Kaur and Ramandeep Kaur were present on this occasion.
