BJP Postpones Legislature Party Meeting, Delhi CM Announcement Delayed
New Delhi, February 17, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has postponed its legislature party meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, by two days. The meeting, which was set to finalize the name of Delhi's next Chief Minister, will now take place on February 20 (Thursday) instead of February 17.
The delay also impacts the oath-taking ceremony, which was initially expected on February 19 but has now been pushed to February 21. The decision to reschedule was made in a high-level meeting led by BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh, attended by senior leaders Virendra Sachdeva, Pawan Rana, and others.
BJP’s Historic Comeback in Delhi
The BJP registered a landslide victory in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats and marking a return to power in the capital after 27 years. However, the party has yet to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate, as no CM face was declared during the campaign or post-election.
Key Contenders for Delhi’s Top Post
The selection of Delhi’s next CM is expected to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trips to France and the US. Several names are in contention for the post, including:
- Parvesh Verma – Defeated former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat
- Vijender Gupta
- Satish Upadhyay
Additionally, the BJP is reportedly considering a woman candidate for the role. Among the potential picks are:
- Neelam Pahalwan
- Rekha Gupta
- Poonam Sharma
- Shikha Rai
With the postponed meeting now set for February 20, all eyes remain on the BJP leadership as Delhi awaits its next Chief Minister.
