Khatri Welfare Sabha urges CM for ‘Corridor’ to Shaheed Thapar's birthplace, submit memorandum to DC
Ferozepur, March 5, 2025: Highlighting the long-pending demand of 35 lakh Khatris in Punjab, the Khatri Welfare Sabha submitted a memorandum to the Punjab Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, advocating for the construction of a corridor leading to the ancestral house of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar in Ludhiana.
During the event, Pawan Bhandari, General Secretary of Khatri Maha Sabha Punjab, and Lovkesh Kakkar, President of Khatri Welfare Sabha Ferozepur, emphasized that Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar, along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru, played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle by forcing the British rulers to leave India. They pointed out that the martyr's birthplace is located at Naughara Mohalla in Ludhiana, and a proposal to create a direct route from PNB Bank Street in Chaura Bazar to the ancestral house has been under consideration for a long time.
The leaders stated that the land acquisition process for the corridor is already complete, and the government needs to release the compensation amount and take possession of the land to begin construction. They recalled that on August 15, 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had publicly promised to start this project as a tribute to Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar. Now, with the Shaheedi Diwas on March 23, 2025, approaching, the Khatri community urged the Chief Minister to honour his commitment and commence the corridor's construction.
The memorandum stressed that fulfilling this promise would not only preserve the legacy of the great martyr but also serve as a significant tribute for future generations.
Several prominent leaders, including Pradeep Bindra, Senior Vice President, Bal Krishan Dhawan, Advisor, Davinder Dhawan, Meet President, Surinder Berry, General Secretary, Gaurav Behal, Chief Spokesperson, and Ankush Bhandari, Youth President, participated in the gathering, appealing to the Punjab government to take prompt action and restore the community's faith in the administration.
