Chandigarh, March 19, 2025: Following the intervention of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi, the Amritsar Police have added sections of the SC/ST Act to a case involving the assault and caste-based abuse of a CRPF constable by Punjab Police personnel.
According to a Commission spokesperson, the action was taken after Parminder Kaur, wife of CRPF constable Bhushan Kumar, submitted a written complaint.
She alleged that her husband was unjustly beaten by ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, who also hurled casteist slurs at him. Despite filing a complaint, a counter-case had been registered against Kumar.
The Commission directed the police to reinvestigate and apply the relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.The Amritsar Police have now complied and assured that the case against Bhushan Kumar will soon be withdrawn.
