Three booked including Dy Dir (Animal Husbandry) over spoiled livestock vaccines
Ferozepur, March 20, 2025: In a significant development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered legal action against three veterinary officials, including a former deputy director of the Animal Husbandry Department, in connection with the administration of faulty vaccines to livestock across several villages. The incident has raised concerns about department vaccine storage and distribution practices.
Gurmeet Singh Mishra, a leader of a farmer's union, brought the case to the High Court, claiming negligence in the handling of vaccines. As a result, a legal case has been filed against Dr Hardeep Kaur Dhaliwal, the then Deputy Director, Dr Jaswant Singh, and Hussiar Singh of the veterinary dispensary.
According to reports, the event dates back to April 5, 2021, when vaccines sent to the district were improperly stored, leading to spoilage. The vaccines, designed for livestock welfare, were required to be maintained at a specific temperature range of 4 to 8 degrees Celsius. However, a malfunctioning air conditioning unit at the storage facility allegedly caused the vaccines to go bad.
This incident has raised serious questions about the department's oversight and commitment to ensuring livestock safety. The High Court's intervention underscores the importance of accountability in addressing such issues.
