Chandigarh, April 13, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sharply criticized Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa for what it termed an "irresponsible and fear-mongering" statement regarding the alleged smuggling of 50 grenades into Punjab.
Senior AAP leader Deepak Bali accused Bajwa of prioritizing media attention over national security, warning that such comments could jeopardize public trust and stability in the state.
“If Bajwa truly cared about Punjab, he would have immediately informed the police or the Chief Minister instead of spreading panic through the media,” said Bali, pointing to what he described as a reckless disregard for protocol and public safety.
Bali questioned Bajwa’s intentions, suggesting that his remarks were more about political theater than public welfare.
“In his greed for media attention, Partap Bajwa has put Punjab’s security at risk. A genuine leader would never handle such sensitive information so carelessly,” he said.
Referring to Bajwa's claim that 18 of the grenades had already been used and 32 remained, Bali noted that such a precise figure — without evidence or reporting to authorities — raised serious concerns.
“Bajwa’s ‘experience’ says more about how such cross-border supplies happen than it does about his concern for Punjab,” he remarked. The AAP leader reaffirmed confidence in Punjab Police and the state government, stating they are fully capable of managing law and order.
He criticized Bajwa’s comments as damaging to public morale. “These baseless statements erode trust in our institutions and create unnecessary fear among citizens,” Bali said.
Bali further challenged Bajwa’s credibility, asking why no actionable information or source had been shared with law enforcement.
“If he truly has concrete information, why hasn’t he shared it with officials? His refusal to cooperate only shows a lack of sincerity and a hunger for headlines,” he added.
Drawing attention to the Congress party’s past, Bali said Bajwa’s approach is a continuation of a pattern of mishandling sensitive matters.
“It’s ironic that a leader from the very party responsible for much of Punjab’s unrest is now playing politics over security issues,” he said.
Bali urged Bajwa to act responsibly. “Punjab’s peace is not a political tool. It’s time Bajwa stopped using fear as a means to remain relevant in politics,” he concluded.
