Chandigarh, June 3, 2025: In a major success under its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Gurazad Singh, Superintendent at the Office of Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Derabassi (SAS Nagar), while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
According to a spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made based on a complaint from a resident of the village Chhacheroli, Derabassi. The complainant had taken a ₹2 lakh loan in 2012 from the Rani Majra Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society. Due to irregular payments, the outstanding amount including interest grew to ₹3.16 lakh.
The complainant cleared all dues amounting to ₹4.14 lakh on March 13, 2025, and received a clearance certificate from the society.
However, despite full payment, the accused demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 to obtain final approval from the Assistant Registrar and remove a lien on the complainant’s land.
After verifying the complaint, a Vigilance Flying Squad laid a trap and caught Gurazad Singh red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
During the operation, unsigned typed orders related to the case—meant to be issued by the Assistant Registrar—were also recovered from the spot.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Flying Squad-1, SAS Nagar. Further investigation is underway.
