Chandigarh, June 7, 2025: In a major boost to eco-friendly urban transport, Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij has announced the launch of five new air-conditioned electric buses (E-buses) on local routes in Ambala.
This will increase the number of electric buses in operation within the city to ten, with plans underway to add six to seven more in the near future.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to green mobility, Sh. Vij said, “These electric buses are both environment-friendly and air-conditioned, offering comfort to the public while reducing carbon emissions.”
Local Bus Service Resumes After 25 Years
Thanks to Minister Vij’s efforts, Ambala’s local bus service—which had been non-operational for nearly 25 years—has now been successfully revived.
The resumption has brought immense relief to thousands of daily commuters across the region.Once a regular service between Ambala City and Cantonment, the route had been defunct until Vij took office and prioritized public transport modernization.
Current Routes Serving Thousands Daily
The newly operational electric buses now run on various city routes, including:
- Kalrahedi to Defence Colony, Tundla, Topkhana Parade, and Indira Chowk
- Cantonment Bus Stand to City
- Boh to Babyal, Tangri Dam Road, Mahesh Nagar, Subhash Park
- Shahpur and Machhonda to Vidya Nagar, Nanhera, and Saha
The service is rapidly gaining popularity, providing a clean, quiet, and affordable commute to the people of Ambala.
27 Modern Bus Queue Shelters Coming Soon
To further enhance commuter convenience, 27 modern bus queue shelters will soon be constructed in Ambala Cantonment. These shelters will feature seating, lighting, and fans—a move aimed at improving passenger experience during wait times.
Statewide Transport Modernization in Motion
This local expansion comes as part of Haryana’s broader plan to introduce 650 new buses, including 150 air-conditioned vehicles, across the state. The initiative marks a significant leap forward in both public transport accessibility and environmental sustainability.
“Ambala's transport system is undergoing a quiet revolution,” said Sh. Anil Vij. “These electric buses are not just vehicles—they are a symbol of our commitment to clean energy and public welfare.”
