Ludhiana (Punjab), June 13, 2025: In a major political shake-up ahead of the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) scored a significant boost as hundreds of leaders and workers from Congress, BJP, and Shiromani Akali Dal formally joined the party on Friday. The wave of new entrants signals growing support for AAP in the region and a clear setback for rival parties.
At a specially organized event, AAP Punjab State President Aman Arora, alongside Working President Shery Kalsi and senior leader Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia, welcomed the leaders into the party fold and described the mass joining as a reflection of public trust in the AAP government’s governance model.
Among the prominent Congress leaders who joined are Divyesh Makkar (Ward No. 69), former Youth Congress General Secretary KK Digli, Ashok Kada, Neeraj Kanda, and Sumit Arora, along with a group of other well-known local figures.

From the Akali Dal, Raman Kumar Sangar, a prominent Ludhiana-based builder, joined AAP with a large group of associates including Gurujagdeep Singh, Harpreet Singh Randhawa, Jasdeep Singh, Palwinder Singh, and others.
The BJP also witnessed a significant defection from its Mahila Morcha unit. Vice Presidents Kirandeep Kaur, Anu, Simran, and Sarabjit Kaur, along with Sunita (Treasurer) and several other women leaders, joined AAP, stating that they were inspired by the party’s inclusive policies and commitment to development.
In a show of cross-party unity, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) state president Yashpal Sharma and party spokesperson Chander Kant Chadda also extended their support to AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, further solidifying the party’s position in the upcoming bypoll.
Speaking to the media, Aman Arora said, “The people of Punjab are embracing AAP’s politics of clean governance and pro-people policies. The overwhelming support in Ludhiana West clearly reflects the public's desire for change. We are confident that AAP will win this seat with a decisive margin.”
The leaders who joined AAP praised the party’s transparent leadership, public welfare initiatives, and commitment to grassroots development. They pledged to work under AAP’s banner to further the cause of people-centric governance in Punjab.
With the by-election drawing closer, the political dynamics in Ludhiana West have shifted dramatically, giving AAP a clear edge in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest.
