From Scorching Highs to Soaking Rains: Punjab’s June Weather Summary: Tarn Taran, Ludhiana Among Wettest Districts

Chandigarh, June 30, 2025 – Punjab received 28% above-normal rainfall in June 2025, marking a stronger-than-usual onset of the monsoon season, according to the latest data released by the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh.
The state recorded 69.7 mm of rainfall during the month, compared to the normal average of 54.5 mm. Several districts, including Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Rupnagar, and Patiala, reported significantly higher rainfall, while others like Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, and Sangrur saw below-normal precipitation.
District-Wise Highlights:

Tarn Taran registered the highest deviation with 159% excess rainfall.

Ludhiana saw 131.6 mm, more than double its normal with a 122% increase.

Rupnagar recorded 180.4 mm, showing an 84% surplus.

In contrast, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur witnessed a rainfall deficit of -63% and -50% respectively.
Temperature Extremes:

Amritsar recorded a maximum of 45.8°C on June 12, one of the highest in the state.

Ludhiana and Patiala saw highs of 44.0°C and 44.5°C respectively during the second week of June.

Minimum temperatures dropped to 19.6°C in Ludhiana and Patiala, and 22.9°C in Amritsar—marginally cooler than recent years.
Rainfall in Major Cities:

Ludhiana reported 305.9 mm, the highest among major cities, with 112 mm falling on June 17 alone.

Patiala saw 120.3 mm, while Amritsar registered 100.9 mm rainfall.
Long-Term Trends:
Punjab’s June rainfall has fluctuated greatly in the last two decades, with the highest recorded in 2008 (155.5 mm) and lowest in 2009 (10.6 mm). After a dry June in 2024 (29.4 mm), this year marks a significant recovery.
