Chandigarh, June 30, 2025 – In a significant reform aimed at improving ease of doing business and eliminating corruption, the Punjab Government has revised the norms for obtaining Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs) under its new Industrial Policy.
Under the updated rules, industries will no longer be required to obtain a Fire NOC annually. Instead, the validity of the NOC will now be determined based on the risk category of the industry:
-
Low-risk industries: 5 years validity
-
Medium-risk industries: 3 years validity
-
High-risk industries: 1 year validity
This move is expected to reduce bureaucratic delays and end the harassment often reported by traders during the Fire NOC renewal process.
Additionally, the process of annual fire certification has been digitized. Traders can now submit their Fire Safety Plans and get approvals online through a dedicated portal, eliminating the need for physical follow-ups.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Sond said the reforms would significantly ease compliance for industrial units while ensuring transparency, accountability, and enhanced fire safety standards. “This is a crucial step in creating a business-friendly environment in Punjab,” he added.
