Chandigarh, July 21, 2025 — In a significant move to tackle corruption in property deed registrations, the Punjab Government has issued clear directives to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across the state.
The Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management (Stamp & Registration Branch) has instructed DCs to take immediate and firm steps to ensure transparency in the registration process under the newly launched Easy Registration Project, which began in S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) and is now being implemented state-wide.
As per the official communication, DCs have been asked to immediately convene meetings with deed writers, typists, and property dealers within their respective jurisdictions.
These meetings aim to identify and report instances of corruption, while also warning stakeholders that any demand for money in the name of government officials will invite strict action.
Sub-Registrars and Joint Sub-Registrars have been directed to ask all deed executants whether any bribe was solicited during the registration process.
Citizens are to be informed that all applicable fees have been sent to them via WhatsApp and are accessible on the NGDRS Portal, ensuring complete transparency in payment structures.
Additionally, DCs must ensure that at least 5% of people who register deeds daily are contacted to verify if any bribe demands were made.Any corruption-related complaint or incident must be dealt with under the strictest legal provisions and promptly reported to the department.
The government has emphasized that these measures are part of its broader effort to eliminate corrupt practices and restore public confidence in the land registration system.
