Mohali (Punjab), July 21, 2025 — In a show of strong opposition to the Punjab government's land pooling policy, the Congress party held a large-scale protest outside the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office today.
Led by Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, thousands of party workers and senior leaders gathered to demand the immediate withdrawal of the policy, calling it anti-farmer and unjust.
Raising slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Warring accused it of attempting to “loot” farmers under the guise of land pooling.
“This is not a land pooling policy, it’s a land looting scheme,” he declared, questioning the logic behind offering a mere 1,000 square yards in exchange for one acre of prime agricultural land. He warned the state government to learn from the central government’s rollback of the three farm laws following massive farmer protests.
Addressing the gathering, Warring said, “The farmer is emotionally and economically attached to his land. Any attempt to take it away forcibly will be strongly resisted. We stand with the farmers in this fight.”
The Congress delegation also submitted a memorandum to the GMADA administrator addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging the government to scrap the policy immediately. The memorandum warned that the scheme would have devastating environmental and economic consequences for the state.
Later, speaking to the media, Warring doubled down on his criticism, asserting that there was no public demand for such a policy and accusing the AAP leadership of pushing a scheme that benefits no one but a few vested interests.
Commenting on Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar’s recent suggestion of a BJP-Akali Dal alliance, Warring said the two parties had always been in a “covert alliance” and were now trying to regroup after losing public support. “Even if they come together, it won’t matter. Zero plus zero is still zero,” he quipped.
Prominent Congress leaders present at the protest included AICC Secretary Ravinder Dalwi, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Navtej Cheema, Gurkirat Kotli, Jasbir Dimpa, Harminder Gill, Kuljeet Nagra, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Gagandeep Singh Bobby, Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Mohit Mohindra, Kuldeep Vaid, Kaka Randeep Nabha, and Ranjit Singh Jeeti.
