UP sends 1,000 quintals of wheat seed for Punjab’s flood-hit farmers; Ashwani Sharma hails ‘example of humanity and cooperation’
Chandigarh, October 21, 2025: Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for dispatching 1,000 quintals of wheat seed to farmers affected by recent floods in Punjab, calling the initiative a humane, timely gesture that underscores inter-state cooperation. He said the assistance will help farmers restart sowing where fields were inundated and seed stocks destroyed during the deluge.
According to Sharma, the consignment comprises high-quality BB-327 (Karan Shivani) wheat—bio-fortified and disease-resistant—that matures in about 155 days and has a yield potential of up to 80 quintals per hectare. He added that the seeds will be distributed free of cost to eligible flood-affected farmers to enable quick rehabilitation of cropped areas and restore livelihoods ahead of the rabi season.
Sharma noted that the decision followed representations highlighting seed shortages and crop losses, and said the prompt response sets a benchmark for compassionate governance. He termed the move consistent with the Centre’s stated commitment to support disaster-hit citizens, adding that the BJP stands with every affected family through relief, financial aid, and rehabilitation measures.
Emphasizing the broader message of solidarity, Sharma said the aid reflects a shared responsibility to safeguard farm incomes and food security when calamity strikes. He concluded that coordinated action—spanning quality inputs, timely delivery, and targeted outreach—will be crucial to help farmers recover faster and return to sustainable productivity.
