‘Apne Neta Ko Jano’ : Ferozepur Class 8 Girl Pawanpreet Kaurs speaks in Parliament, Creates history
Ferozepur, November 23, 2025: In a proud moment for Punjab and Ferozepur district, Pawanpreet Kaur, a Class 8 student of Government Senior Secondary School, Bare Ke (located near the Hussainiwala India-Pakistan border), became the first school student from the district to represent Punjab and deliver a speech in the Indian Parliament under the ‘Apne Neta Ko Jano’ programme.

Pawanpreet Kaur was honoured by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi for her outstanding performance. On Saturday, she, along with her guide teacher Sumitpal Singh Sodhi (Science Master), was felicitated by District Education Officer Mrs Muneela Arora and Deputy District Education Officer Dr Satinder Singh at a special ceremony held in Ferozepur.
Speaking on the occasion, the education officers hailed the achievement as historic, stating that Pawanpreet has not only brought laurels to her village, school, and district but has also set a new benchmark for students in the region.
An overwhelmed Pawanpreet Kaur thanked her guide teacher Sumitpal Singh Sodhi for his constant motivation and able guidance, saying, “It was because of Sir that I reached the Parliament and got an opportunity to speak and learn so much.” She also expressed gratitude to school in-charge Ashwinder Singh, her parents, and the entire school staff.
Sumitpal Singh Sodhi described the moment as a matter of immense pride, adding that Pawanpreet is the first school student from Ferozepur district to speak in Parliament. He extended special thanks to DEO Muneela Arora and Deputy DEO Dr Satinder Singh for the grand felicitation.
